SWRC are not only focused on current success but also on developing future success for Sabahan rugby. SWRC’s success at the Labuan International Rugby 10s 2012 was due to determination and strong team spirit amongst the players.

SWRC first match against Front Row Club (Royal Selangor Club) resulted in a 10 – 0 victory. The Warriors then improved in their final pool game against Majilis Politeknik Malaysia to win 25 – 0. Moving into the quarterfinals, SWRC managed to down the Miri Rhinos 19-7. The semi-final match was a hard fought victory against fellow locals KK Sharks. SWRC won the match 5-0. The grand final for the Warriors was against Politeknik Merlimau Melaka where they won 10-7 and emerged overall champions.

The Sabah Warriors Rugby Club (SWRC) is a new rugby club founded in July 30th 2011 to equip Sabahan players with the best possible training, international exposure and top-notch facilities, all with the aim to give them an opportunity to become top class players.  SWRC’s ultimate goal is to hone Sabahan boys and girls to the level where they’re worthy of the Malaysian Olympics Sevens team qualification for the Brazil Olympics in 2016.

SWRC has organised international tours as well to give its players the best exposure possible to ensure the players have regular experience at international level. At the first tour in February 2012 this year, SWRC has managed to win the Shield category at the annual Bangkok Internation Rugby 10s tournament. For its first tournament, the Sabah Softwoods Tawau 10s 2011, SWRC managed to make the semi-finals of the tournament being only a few months old.

SWRC also has a women’s rugby team called the Angel Warriors. The Angel Warriors are comprised of Sabahan girls from Penampang and Ranau area, who are passionate, committed and very skilled rugby players. They are the current state champions for the ladies competitions and succeeded in winning the Plate Category at the Labuan International 10s 2012 tournament.

SWRC also co-sponsored and coached the MAKTAB college U16 boys school team, who finished runner-up in the schools tournament.
